FROSTBURG, Md. –
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) did all of the scoring for third-ranked Kutztown and also helped lead the defense to another shutout as KU finished off its regular season portion of the schedule with a victory, defeating Frostburg State 2-0 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game.
The Golden Bears (15-2 overall) recorded their 13th shutout of the season and won for the 15th time in the season finale.
Gatehouse opened up the scoring 6:36 into the game with her sixth goal of the season, second in as many games and third in the last four overall.
Grace Harrold (York, Pa./Central York) had the assist on the goal. The senior defender then gave her team some insurance later on in the contest. After scoreless second and third quarters, Gatehouse received a pass from
Megan Doyle (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and slotted home a shot for her second of the day and a two-goal cushion.
Kutztown outshot Frostburg State 19-5 overall and 13-4 on goal. KU also held a double-digit advantage in penalty corners at 15-4.
Mia Kepler (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) finished with four saves in cage.
Kutztown will now enter postseason play with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference quarterfinal round game next Tuesday, Oct. 31, against IUP, which KU defeated during the regular season 5-0 on the road back on Sept. 30.
