Emme Wolfel makes season-high eight saves in 1-0 loss to No. 5 West Chester

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Junior goalkeeper Emme Wolfel (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) made a season-high eight saves as the Kutztown University women's soccer team (4-2-1, 3-2-1 PSAC) fell to No. 5 West Chester (7-0-0, 6-0-0 PSAC) 1-0 in a spirited and physical affair at Keystone Field Wednesday evening.

Both teams battled to the very end, but a Julia Raybold header goal off a corner for the Golden Rams was enough to claim victory. The scoresheet could've been more in favor of West Chester, but Wolfel made some showstopping saves to keep the Golden Rams off the board.

Kutztown struggled in the earlier stages of the first half but made a strong push for a goal as the first half came to a close. Chances from Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) and Bridget Curtis (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) highlighted the end of the half for KU, but the Golden Bears were unable to find the back of the net.

The second half was a chippy affair on both sides as the teams combined for nine fouls and one yellow card in the last 45 minutes of the game alone. The Golden Bears found their footing offensively and defensively as the game progressed, taking charge of possession and putting the Golden Ram's goal under pressure as time ticked down.

Despite the pressure, including two corner kicks in the final three minutes, KU was unable to find the clinical finish as West Chester held on for the 1-0 victory.

The Golden Bears hit the road this weekend for a contest against Millersville. That game will take place on Saturday, Sept. 24, and kick off at 4 p.m.
