PHILADELPHIA -- Freshman
Lailah ElBouazzaoui (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) tallied five goals and set a Kutztown single-game record with 13 draw controls as the Golden Bears pulled away for a 17-10 non-conference road victory over Holy Family Wednesday afternoon.
ElBouazzaoui finished with a team-high six points,
Sam Graf (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) and
Lexie Jackson (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) registered hat tricks, and the Maroon and Gold had yet another balanced offensive effort.
The Golden Bears (2-1) kept Holy Family off the scoreboard for more than 20 minutes, building a 4-0 lead after a quarter on goals from
Kayla Brooks (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield), Jackson (two) and ElBouazzaoui.
Despite outscoring the Bears 4-3 in the second, the Tigers (1-4) never grabbed momentum and trailed by multiple goals for most of the game.
Elbouazzaoui, from Bridgewater, N.J., had five of her record-breaking draw controls in the second quarter. She also had two in the first, two in the third and four in the fourth, surpassing Emily Smith's former mark of 11, which she coincidentally set at Holy Family back in 2017.
Shannon Lake (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) extended KU's lead to 7-4 on a free position goal 1:47 before the half and the Golden Bears capped a four-goal spurt less than five minutes into the third with goals by Graf, Brooks and ElBouazzaoui for a 10-4 advantage.
Kutztown led 12-6 after three and closed strong with five of the last seven goals, including a pair from ElBouazzaoui,
Rory Nilsen's (Lansdale, Pa./Pope John Paul II) fourth of the year, a man-down marker from
Emma Meakim (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) and Graf's hat trick goal.
ElBouazzaoui (eight), Graf (seven) and Meakim (six) combined to attempt as many shots (21) as Holy Family's entire team. The Golden Bears held a 10-shot advantage at game's end.
Kutztown converted 14-of-15 clearing attempts and went 6-of-7 on free-position tries.
Meakim got the job done at both ends of the field with three points (two goals, assist), six shots and team-highs of three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Madeline Anemone (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell),
Cyrose Conteh (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown), Graf and
Brooke-Lynn Grim (Abbottstown, Pa./New Oxford) each picked up a pair of ground balls, helping KU to a 16-12 edge in that category.
Golden Bear goalie
Jenna Blesson (Sparta, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) made seven saves for her second win in three starts, while her counterpart Caitlyn Musick was also credited with seven stops.
Holy Family (1-4) got a tremendous performance from midfielder Mackenzie Santucci, who registered game-highs of seven points, five goals, 10 shots and six shots on goal. Tatceyana Pulley added a hat trick, scoring on all three of her shots.
Kutztown will be back in Philadelphia Sunday for another non-conference clash with Jefferson. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
