MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Kutztown University women's lacrosse had a late rally fall short of time in an 11-5 defeat to Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division action Tuesday afternoon at Millersville University.
Â
The Golden Bears (3-3 overall, 0-2 PSAC) were held scoreless through the first half and had one goal through three quarters, but fought back in the final frame, outscoring the Marauders (5-2, 1-2) 4-1 in the fourth quarter, but ran out of time to complete the comeback effort.
Â
Kutztown was right there with Millersville in scoring opportunities, outshot by just three (9-6) in the opening quarter, but the Marauder defense, and goalie Morgan Scott (seven saves), did a good job of keeping the Maroon and Gold out of the net for a majority of the contest.
Â
Freshman
Lailah ElBouazzaoui (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), who led the KU attack with two goals, scored her team's first tally 3:05 into the third quarter to stop a consecutive run of eight goals by Millersville to start the game. The Marauders tacked on two more before the end of the third and led 10-1 heading into the fourth.
Â
The Golden Bears showed their fight in the fourth, scoring four straight goals in the first 8:10 of the quarter, coming from
Olivia Eilbacher (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic),
Emma Meakim (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland),
Sam Graf (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) and ElBouazzaoui. With the deficit down to just five at 10-5 and 6:50 left to play, KU saw a chance. But Millersville won the ensuing draw control and later scored with 3:29 to go on the scoreboard, finishing off the game.
Â
Jenna Blesson (Sparta, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) finished with 11 saves for KU, her second consecutive game in double-figure saves and third this season, and also led the team with seven ground balls.
Lexie Jackson (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) tallied three ground balls and one caused turnover.
Madeline Anemone (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) contributed two ground ball and a team-high two caused turnovers.
