Women's bowling places seventh at Northeast Roundup

NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Kutztown University women's bowling dropped its first two matches Sunday, but roared back to nip Felician and avenge an earlier loss to Bloomfield for a seventh-place finish at the Northeast Roundup.

Head coach Angela Reynolds shuffled her lineup prior to the Golden Bears' matchup with Felician and it proved to be the right call.

After going two matches without a 200 game, Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township), Lindsey Gotwalt (Hanover, Md./Meade), Eleni Feggulis (South River, N.J./South River), Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) and Madison Lund (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) turned that around with a 226 in the opening game against the Golden Falcons. Felician fought back from a 43-pin deficit to take the the lead after game three and held a 20-pin edge going into the final game. Kutztown (43-36) came through with a 173-148 win in the fifth to pull out a 910-905 victory.

Kutztown took a 958-848 defeat against Bloomfield in its second match of the day, but got another shot at the Bears in the seventh-place match. This time, the Maroon and Gold posted two 200+ games and a pair of major pin differentials pushed them to a 944-877 win.

The Golden Bears trailed heading into game three, but outscored Bloomfield by 44 pins (192-148) to go in front. They closed with a 212-153 victory to put it away.

In its opening match, Kutztown fell to 25th-ranked Adelphi, 895-819.

Sunday marked the conclusion of the regular season for Kutztown, which will travel to Coram Country Lanes in Coram, N.Y., next weekend for the East Coast Conference Championships. The Golden Bears will be competing for the first time since 2019 after the 2020 championships and KU's 2020-21 season were canceled as a result of the pandemic.

Kutztown's best finish at the ECC Championships since moving over from the Northeast Conference was a runner-up showing in 2016, its first season as an affiliate member of the league.
