No. 25 Women's bowling takes two, drops three in traditional play at James Brown Invite

TOWSON, Md. -- No. 25 Kutztown women's bowling took a bit to get going, but finished Saturday with a pair of solid performances at the James Brown Invitational hosted by Morgan State. The Golden Bears picked up traditional format wins over St. Francis Brooklyn and Mount Aloysius at AMF Towson Lanes, while falling to Felician, 11th-ranked Duquesne and 10th-ranked Mount St. Mary's.

It was a tough start to the day for KU, which wasn't at its best in a 924-779 loss to East Coast Conference foe Felician. Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) led the Bears with a 178, but was the only Bear in the lineup to exceed 160.

Though the first three matches didn't yield the scores head coach Angela Reynolds or her bowlers were looking for, the team still secured an 849-769 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn behind a 189 game from Lindsey Gotwalt (Hanover, Md./Meade) and Sromovski's 170. Jordan Dean (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) and Eleni Feggulis (South River, N.J./South River) were right in the mix with matching 167s, while Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) threw a 156.

A team-high 182 from Hanaway wouldn't be enough to best No. 11 Duquesne in the first of two straight nationally-ranked matchups for the Maroon and Gold. The Dukes were strong throughout, knocking down more than one thousand pins in a 265-pin victory, 1039-774.

Kutztown (32-22) ended the day in a much better place than it started with consecutive 900+ matches. Despite a 974-930 loss to 10th-ranked Mount St. Mary's, all five bowlers scored 171 or higher led by Sromovski's 214 --KU's first 200 game of the day. Feggulis sported a 199, while Gotwalt rolled a 175, and Dean and Hanaway 171s.

The Bears closed with a commanding 920-739 win over Mount Aloysius. Sromovski bettered her performance against The Mount by five pins with a team-high 219. Feggulis was back in the 190s for a second straight match with a 192. Gotwalt's 187 was two off her high game of the day, while Dean achieved her best with a 183.

For the day, Sromovski led the team with a 183.8 average across five games (919). Feggulis averaged 173.8 in five games and Gotwalt 172 in five games.

Kutztown is awaiting positioning in Sunday's best-of-seven bracket play, which begins at 8:30 a.m.
