Box Score 2 FAIRMONT, W. Va. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball opened its 2021 regular season at the Fairmont State Classic in Fairmont, West Virginia, this weekend. After a split in two matches on opening day Friday, KU dropped both matches Saturday to Davis & Elkins College and Lake Erie College, both by 3-1 scores.
The Golden Bears return home at 1-3 overall, but were able to give valuable playing experience to a number of different underclassmen that will play in a majority of sets this season for head coach
John Gump. And that experience is valuable.
"We got behind early today and couldn't dig ourselves out of the hole," said Gump. "The results may not have been what we had hoped for this weekend, but we still saw some good things. There's still a long way to go and I am confident there are good things ahead."
Kutztown will return to action next weekend at the East Stroudsburg Invitational, hosted by ESU. KU will take on Caldwell and Pitt-Johnstown on Friday, Sept. 10, and then play the host Warriors and Saint Anselm the following day.
