KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown University is proud to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of women's basketball as a varsity program during the upcoming 2021-22 season.
 
The anniversary season will include special recognition of the student-athletes, coaches and moments defining five decades of on- and off-court success for Golden Bear women's basketball and culminates with the 50-year anniversary celebration reception Saturday, Feb. 5, following KU's game against Lock Haven.
 
Kutztown played its inaugural varsity season during the 1970-71 academic year, winning its first seven games and finishing an impressive 7-1. In the 49 seasons that have followed, the Golden Bears have racked up 618 wins and 25 postseason appearances.
 
The celebration of KU's 50-year anniversary was originally scheduled to take place during the 2020-21 season before the season was canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
Kutztown will honor the 50-year anniversary of women's basketball during the 2021-22 season though the following initiatives:

50-YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION RECEPTION (FEB. 5, 2022)
Following Kutztown's 3 p.m. game against Lock Haven Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, a postgame get-together featuring food, drinks, camaraderie and recognition of the Golden Anniversary Team will take place in the Student Recreation Center.

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY TEAM
From the pioneers of the program in the 1970s and 1980s to recent Golden Bear stars during the 2010s, Kutztown University women's basketball has been shaped through the contributions of many tremendous players. The Golden Anniversary Team is comprised of players from the entirety of the program's 50-year history that have met preset criteria. The team will be announced at KUBears.com in mid-October and recognized in-person at the Feb. 5, 2022, game against Lock Haven, as well as at the postgame reception.
 
TOP MOMENTS
With two PSAC East championships, 25 postseason appearances and 625 all-time victories, the women's basketball team has provided many exceptional highlights over 50 years. We will relive the best team accomplishments, milestones and individual standout performances with the unveiling of KU women's basketball's top moments. Top moments will initially be announced at home games during the 2021-22 season over the public address system at timeouts, quarter breaks and halftime, before being released at KUBears.com the week after they are announced.
