LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. -- Kutztown University women's golf opened the fall portion of its 2021-22 season Monday afternoon with a dual match against Jefferson at the Liberty Hill Union League course and unsurprisingly it was junior
Cecelia Knecht (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) leading the way for the Golden Bears with a 12-over par 84. The Rams captured the team victory 349-363.
Knecht, who has led the Maroon and Gold in scoring average each of her previous two seasons with the team, turned in a 3-over 39 going out highlighted by a birdie on the par 5, 461-yard ninth. Two holes after the turn, the South Carolinian dropped her second birdie of the round at the par 4 No. 11.
Knecht also registered a team-high eight pars on the par 72, 5,849-yard course and her score of 84 was tied for third-best on the day with a pair of Jefferson players.
Fellow junior
Olivia Donnini (Wapwallopen, Pa./Crestwood) would have joined Knecht in the 80s if not for a tough 17th hole. As it was, she came in with a round of 90 (+18) that featured seven pars.
Molly Agnello (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) was the only Golden Bear other than Knecht to mark a birdie on her scorecard after shooting a three on the par 4, 316-yard 15th. Agnello had the third-best score for KU at 94.
Last spring
Alexis Perez (Pearland, Texas/J. Frank Dobie) made her debut with a bang, acing the par 3, 164-yard 14th for the program's fourth hole-in-one all-time. Lightning didn't strike twice, Monday, but Perez had a pair of pars and finished with a 95.
Grace Babinchak (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) (105) and
Alexis Verdes (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) (118) rounded out Kutztown's contingent.
Kinley Lingenfelter led the host Rams with a match-low round of 4-over 76. Lingenfelter was superb with 14 pars and a birdie on the day.
Kutztown travels out to Erie this weekend for tournaments at Mercyhurst (Friday and Saturday) and Gannon (Sunday and Monday).
