Women’s Volleyball finishes ESU Invitational with two defeats Saturday

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University volleyball team took on East Stroudsburg University and Saint Anselm Saturday in a double header in the East Stroudsburg Invitational. The Golden Bears battled, but dropped both matches, 3-1 to East Stroudsburg and 3-0 to Saint Anselm.
 
The scores of the opening match was 25-19, 23-25, 20-25, 15-25, and the second set was 20-25, 15-25, 22-25. The Golden Bears fell to 1-6 overall.
 
In their first match of the day the Maroon and Gold took on the Warriors, the Golden Bears managed to win the first set (25-19). After taking lead early Kutztown would hold on to it for the entirety of the set.  
 
The Warriors would turn the tables in the next set, like the Golden Bears, ESU would take a lead in the beginning of the second set that KU couldn't overcome. The Warriors would go on to win the final three sets (25-23,25-20,25-15).
 
The duo of Lauren Jackson (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) and Erin Patterson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) made up the majority of the Kutztown offense with over half of the kills for the Golden Bears each having 12. The defense was led by Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry), combine the pair had over forty digs.
 
Against the Hawks, Kutztown was in all three sets, falling by just five points in the first set and three in the third.
 
Patterson had a team-high 10 kills, Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) tallied 25 assists, Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) contributed 12 digs and Grace Ingram (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) had four blocks.
