SPARKILL, N.Y. -- Kutztown women's tennis had its modest two-match winning streak halted Tuesday afternoon in a 7-0 non-conference loss at Saint Thomas Aquinas.
The Spartans swept doubles in convincing fashion and had their way in singles, too.
Kutztown's (4-5) top challengers were
Claudia Makarski (Garfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) at first singles and
Catherine Maher (Shillington, Pa./Berks Catholic) at third singles, each of whom took six games off their opponents. Makarski fell to Viktoriia Pavlovets 6-3, 6-3, while Maher was defeated by Ayesha Burnett 6-4, 6-2.
Unbeaten Saint Thomas Aquinas (6-0) also won in straight sets at second and fourth singles, while fifth and sixth singles were shortened to eight-game prosets with the match's outcome no longer in the balance.
Kutztown will close out its schedule against Harford Community College on Monday, April 26, at 2:30 p.m. The match won't count against KU's NCAA record since Harford is not a four-year degree granting institution that falls under the NCAA's countable opponents guidelines.
