Fitzpatrick nets career-high four goals as women’s lacrosse falls at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Senior Devon Fitzpatrick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) of the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team had herself a day. The midfielder scored a career-high four goals to pace the KU offense, but the Golden Bears fell 11-9 at Millersville University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division game Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bears (1-9 overall, 1-8 PSAC) received a goal each from Morgan Hurd (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), Shannon Lake (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), Cyrose Conteh (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown), Cyla Cafferata (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) and Allie McCormick (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford). Fitzpatrick added two draw control wins, while Conteh won a team-high four. Meakim collected two assists to go along with three ground balls and three caused turnovers, both team-highs.

Kutztown trailed 5-2 midway through the first half, but scored four straight goals, including a free position tally by Cafferata with 2:54 left, to take a 6-5 lead heading into halftime. KU came out in the second half and scored first via a goal by Lake just 2:03 in and found itself ahead 7-5. The Marauders (3-7, 3-6), however, would go on to score five of the next six goals to go back on top 10-8 with 8:00 remaining.

Hurd found the back of the net with 5:42 to play off a feed from Meakim to cut the Maroon and Gold's deficit to one at 10-9, but Millersville answered a little more than a minute later to pad its lead back to two and hung on to claim the victory.

Sophomore goalie Jenna Blesson (Sparta, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) finished with seven saves.

Kutztown remains on the road for a game at nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg on Tuesday, April, 20. Game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
