NFHCA Release
Â
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Kutztown University field hockey team had three representatives earn All-America status, as
Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional),
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) and
Leigh Roselli (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) were recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association as All-Americans, announced Tuesday.
Â
Donato was named to the first team, while Dusman and Roselli received second team honors. It is the second straight season that the Golden Bears had three student-athletes as All-Americans. The trio also were members of the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams, with Donato earning first team and Dusman and Roselli named second team.
Â
A graduate student midfielder from Cedarville, N.J., Donato ranked among the top five in the PSAC in goals (13), points (32) and shots (73). She started all 18 games en route to leading the Bears in goals and points, and also shared the team lead for game-winning goals (three) with Dusman. Donato scored her first career hat trick, Sept. 5, against Saint Michael's and went on to record a second, Sept. 25, at Seton Hill.
Â
In 69 career games (53 starts), Donato registered 27 goals, nine assists, 63 points and 146 shots.
Â
Dusman is just four goals shy of joining Kutztown's top 10 list following another double-digit output in 2021. She found the back of the cage 11 times in 18 games and added four helpers for 26 points. The Chambersburg, Pa., native ended the season ranked within the top five of the conference in shots (77) and game-winning goals (three), and was top 10 in goals, shots on goal (40) and points.
Â
The senior expects to return next season to use the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA for 2020's lost season due to COVID-19.
Â
Roselli, a 2019 NFHCA All-America Second Team pick, provided another year of strong leadership on KU's backline. The graduate student from Romansville, Pa., started all 18 games for the Golden Bears, who recorded six shutouts and held opponents to two goals or fewer in 15 games. Kutztown allowed the fifth fewest goals per game (1.33) and ceded just 90 penalty corners over the course of the season (5.0 per game). Roselli was an All-PSAC Second Team honoree in both 2018 and 2019 and also was named a second team All-American in 2019.
Â
Kutztown had another strong season, finishing 11-7 and advancing to the postseason for a third straight campaign. Under current head coach
Marci Scheuing, at least four Golden Bears have garnered All-PSAC honors every season since 2015.
Â
The NFHCA Division II All-American announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards from the NFHCA. The NFHCA Division II Regional Players of the Year will be released December 15 and NFHCA Division II National Player of the Year will be announced on December 16.
