Golden Bears erase 13 point deficit but Minot State holds on to win 72-67

BILLINGS, Mont. -  The Kutztown University women's basketball team falls 72-67 to Minot State in its second game back in action during the D2CCA Tipoff Classic Saturday afternoon in Billings, Montana. The Golden Bears trailed for the first three quarters with the Beavers leading by 13 points in the second quarter.

Kutztown erased the deficit taking a one point lead late into the fourth quarter, but with only two minutes remaining, Minot State scored six straight points to retake the lead for good. The Beavers managed to hold on until time ran out on the Golden Bears, both teams are now 1-1 on the year.

The Golden Bears offense was led by Casey Remolde (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy), scoring a team-high 24 points shooting 9-of-14 from the floor. She also had eight rebounds and five blocks. Zara Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) tallied 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. Naia Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) also finished in double figures with 11 points. Alexis Smith (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) had nine points and three rebounds. Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) contributed seven points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

KU saw another strong performance from its bench, as it outscored the Beavers 13-9 in their time on the court. Kutztown was hurt by turnovers, and the Beavers capitalized on the mistakes, with 22 of their 72 points coming off of turnovers.

Minot State had three players score double-digit points, led by junior forward Amber Stevahn who scored a team high 25 points. Ten of those points came in the fourth quarter as the Beavers did their best to close out the game.

The Golden Bears have the opportunity to bounce back tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 7, against Montana State Billings at 7:30 p.m., to close out their trip to Montana.
