BALTIMORE, Md. -- Kutztown closed out Saturday's opening day of the Coppin State Lady Eagles Invitational with four straight traditional match victories and a total pinfall of 4,435 to grab the team lead heading into Sunday's action at the AMF Woodlawn Lanes.
Molly Agnello (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) fired a 203 to lead the Bears in their first match of the day, a 937-883 loss to Morgan State, but from their the Maroon and Gold would not be defeated.
Kutztown had at least one bowler in the 200s in all five matches. Three times that honor belonged to sophomore
Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial). She rolled a 200 in a 864-838 win over Caldwell and went back-to-back with a team-high 211 in a 917-754 win over Wagner. Agnello added a 189 in the Caldwell match and a 194 against Wagner, providing the Golden Bears (19-11) with a strong 1-2 punch.
Rachel Wagner (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Depew) joined in on the fun with a 201 to help KU down Norfolk State 897-787. She was followed by Sromovski (183),
Jordan Dean (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) (176) and Agnello (171).
Sromovski showed the way again in a tight 874-843 victory over Chestnut Hill, bowling the team's best game of the day with a 215. Wagner had another strong game as well, closing with a 188.
As a team, the Golden Bears compiled a 177.4 average. They lead Morgan State by 69 pins (4,366) heading into Sunday. Caldwell is third at 4,254, host Coppin State sits fourth at 4,205 and Howard rounds out the top five at 4,103.
Play will resume at 9 a.m. Sunday with five Baker format matches.
