KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team got a season-high 21 points from junior
Wesley Butler (Reading, Pa./Reading) and 13 from
Michael Smith III (Chester, Pa./Chester), but KU dropped its second straight in as many days, falling 74-68 Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena in the PSAC/CIAA Challenge.
Butler and Smith III were joined by
Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy (N.J.)), who also scored in double-figures with 11 points.
The Golden Bears (0-2 overall) trailed 34-32 at halftime, but took a second half lead of 38-34, scoring the first six points of the half. The Vikings (1-1), however, were able to bounce back and go on a run of their own late in the game to take the contest and even their record.
Kutztown shot better Saturday than it did Friday, finishing 48.9% (23-for-47) from the floor. Zacchues Hobbs led all scorers with 25 points. For KU,
Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll) tallied six points and six assists.
Kyree Generett (York, Pa./William Penn),
Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) and
Ky'Aire Sumpter (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) each contributed five points.
Kutztown remains home and will look to stop the current losing streak when it hosts Jefferson University on Wednesday night, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m., from Keystone Arena.
