MANSFIELD, Pa. – Sophomore
Sarah Gatehouse (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) picked the perfect time to record her first collegiate goal as her first-quarter tally in the waning seconds was enough as the seventh-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team defeated Mansfield 1-0 on the road Tuesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game.

The Golden Bears (10-4 overall, 4-3 PSAC) have now won two games in-a-row after losing three straight against three ranked opponents during the week of Oct. 6-13.

Gatehouse's goal came off a penalty corner with just 0:18 left in the opening quarter.
Olivia Blasone (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) took an initial shot that was saved by the Mounties (8-7, 3-4) goalie. But Gatehouse was in the right place at the right time to clean up the rebound and send it home for what proved to be the game winner.

Kutztown continued to put pressure on Mansfield in its offensive end the rest of the way, but could not grab an insurance goal because of the play of August Lewis. The Mounties keeper finished with 14 saves. KU had 10 shots and five penalty corners in the second half. KU outshot Mansfield 20-5 overall, 15-2 on cage, and also held an 11-1 edge in corners.

Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) tallied two saves for the Maroon and Gold.

Kutztown hosts Mercyhurst in a PSAC game on Saturday, Oct. 23, at noon, from Andre Reed Stadium.
