HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Michigan Tech claimed its first win of the spring, Monday, sweeping the Kutztown University men's tennis team, 7-0, in a non-conference get together at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort.
The Huskies (1-1) won all three doubles matches and were victorious in all six singles flights by straight sets.
Senior
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and freshman
Sebastian Arizpe (Puebla, Mexico/Colegio Humboldt de Puebla) battled Michigan Tech's top pair of Vitor Jordao and Nico Caviglia tough, but came up just short, 6-4. The Huskies won second and third doubles by 6-1 scores.
KU's
Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) won seven games off Ignacio Carbajosa at fourth singles in a 6-4, 6-3 setback, while Arizpe gave Caviglia some difficulties before falling 6-4, 6-2.
The Golden Bears dropped to 1-3 on the season with the loss. They'll face the ITA Atlantic Region's ninth-ranked team in West Liberty on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort.
