HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Sophomore
Logan Kemp (Hanover, Pa./South Western) was the lone Kutztown player to triumph, Wednesday, in the Golden Bears' 6-1 loss to Chowan at Evian Tennis Center.
Kemp powered past Job Williamson in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 for his second singles win of the season. The Golden Bears fell to 1-5 on the season in dropping their Spring Break finale.
In doubles, Kemp teamed with freshman and Berks County native
Kurt Abell (Sinking Spring, Pa./Conrad Weiser) at No. 2. The duo waged the most competitive of the three doubles matches in a 6-4 loss to Chowan's Santino Jose Sormani and Corbin Robertson.
Sebasitan Arizpe nearly stole another point for KU at third singles, dropping a 6-4, 7-5 decision to Timofey Tokmakov.
Josh Carl (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) won five games in a straight set defeat at No. 1, while
Benjamin Kelly (Medina, Ohio/Highland) (No. 2) and Abell (No. 4) each took three games off their opponents.
Both of the Hawks' (2-5) doubles victories were by 6-1 scores and their five singles wins came in straight sets.
Kutztown returns to its home courts on Saturday, March 21, at noon against West Chester. It will mark the PSAC opener for both teams.
