KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Lindsay Brenneman (Dover, Pa./Dover) won a trio of individual events and contributed to Kutztown's victory in the 200-yard medley relay, while
Megan Hayward (Meshoppen, Pa./Tunkhannock) swept the distance free races and was part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay during the Golden Bears' 142-106 Senior Day triumph over PSAC foe Lock Haven, Saturday, at the Keystone Natatorium.
In its first home meet of 2020, Kutztown won 10-of-14 events to improve to 7-2 in duals (4-1 PSAC) this season.
Brenneman, a junior from Dover, Pennsylvania, was at the forefront of those efforts. She took the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay, teaming with
Jocelyn Seidt (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) (backstroke),
Charlotte Owens (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) (breaststroke) and anchor
Keelie Walker (York, Pa./York Suburban) (freestyle) to edge the Bald Eagles by three-tenths of a second in a tight race. KU trailed by less than a tenth of a second midway through the relay, but Brenneman's 50 fly split of 28.40 was more than a second quicker than that of LHU's Kristin Allen and the Golden Bears held on to win in 1:58.19 ahead of the Bald Eagles' 1:58.50.
Brenneman continued her strong day by sweeping the 100 and 200 fly and posting the top time in the 100 free. Her 200 fly time of 2:19.74 was a season-best by .09 seconds and once again surpassed a PSAC qualifying standard. Brenneman took the 100 fly in 1:04.62 and a KU 1-2 with Walker in the 100 free with a time of 57.16.
Hayward cut more than four seconds off her previous best in the 1000 free to claim victory in 11:33.09, more than 30 seconds clear of second-place Lauren Mummert from Lock Haven (2-5, 1-5 PSAC). She also won the 500 free in 5:40.15, with teammate Walker finishing runner-up in 5:46.85.
While Walker was second to Golden Bear teammates in the 100 fly and 500 free, she topped five competitors to win the 50 free in 26.46, just ahead of LHU's Mikaela Clemson.
The Maroon and Gold also received individual event wins from
Emmarose DeCaro (Apex, N.C./Apex) in the 100 back (1:04.21) and Owens in the 200 individual medley (2:26.98). DeCaro led off the 200 free relay as KU capped the meet with a victory in 1:51.65. The sophomore was joined by Hayward,
Cara Green (Hanover, Pa./South Western) and
Keara Bedson (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa).
Two of visiting Lock Haven's wins came from Lily Arledge, who swept the 100 and 200 breast. Clemson won the 200 free and Allen the 200 back.
Prior to the meet, Kutztown took time to recognize seniors
Alexis Middaugh (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) and
Carley Wise (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser).
Kutztown finishes the regular season next Saturday at the East Stroudsburg University Invitational.
