Scoring outburst continues as No. 7 KU Field Hockey nets eight goals and blanks Saint Michael’s

COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Kutztown University field hockey team must like playing in the state of Vermont. Following a six-goal spurt on Saturday, seventh-ranked KU topped its prior performance by scoring eight times and allowing none on the other end in an 8-0 victory over the host Saint Michael's Sunday afternoon to finish 2-0 in the Saint Michael's Tournament.

The Golden Bears (2-1 overall) featured six different goal scorers to take their second game in as many days and finish their three-game road trip to open up the 2019 season 2-1. Kutztown's 15 goals scored this season is the most in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

After recording a hat trick in Saturday's win, senior Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin) had another multi-goal game, scoring twice. She is tied for the lead in the PSAC in points (12) and goals (5). Junior Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) tied a career-high, also tallying two goals. Izzy Radel (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman), Leigh Roselli (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), Kasey Elliott (Dover, Pa./Red Land) and Breann Craley (York, Pa./Central York) also penciled their names into the score sheet. It was the first career goals for both Roselli and Elliott, and the first tally of the season for Radel. Craley netted her second in two games.

Kutztown put the game out of reach early on, finding the back of the cage three times in both the first and second quarters to take a commanding 6-0 lead at halftime.

Radel got KU on the board just 4:20 into the contest sending one home off of a deflection. Roselli and Wozniak then put two away within 0:30 of each other. Donato notched both of her goals midway through the second quarter, and once Elliott scored off a pass from Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), KU was once again able to see contributions from most of the roster.

For the second game in a row, three goalies saw action. Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) made the lone save for the trio and recorded the win, her second of the season.

The Maroon and Gold controlled possession and the scoring opportunities. They outshot the Purple Knights 28-1 total and 18-1 on cage. KU also held a 17-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Kutztown will make its home debut in its next game on Friday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. against Slippery Rock. KU will take on Shippensburg the following day at noon. Both games are at Andre Reed Stadium.
