Box Score CLARION, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team had its late rally fall just short in the third set and fell to Clarion University 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
Scores of the match in favor of the Golden Eagles was 25-18, 25-12 and 25-23.
In the third set, the Golden Bears (6-6 overall, 0-2 PSAC) were trailing three different sequences at 15-11, 18-15 and 21-18 and continued to stay within striking distance. Behind 22-19, KU scored four of the next five points to eventually make it all the way back and tie the score 23-23. But Clarion received back-to-back kills on the next two possessions to stop Kutztown's comeback attempt and take the match.
Clarion was able to take control of sets one and two with runs in the middle of play and then continued to push forward.
Junior
Holly Owen (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) led the Golden Bears with 12 kills offensively and also came up with six digs on the defensive side of the net.
Erin Patterson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) tallied six kills in front of net, and each of
Lilly Charlton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove),
Britney Hewitt (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and
Abby Daniels (Exton, Pa./Great Valley) all finished with four kills.
Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) ended with 17 digs, and the duo of
Abbey James (York, Pa./West York Area) and
Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) combined for 31 assists, with James dishing out 21 and Morrow 10.
Kutztown will have an extended PSAC home-opening weekend next weekend as it will host Edinboro (Friday), Gannon (Saturday) and Mercyhurst (Sunday) for three matches in three days.
