PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --
Lesley Lane (Jamesburg, N.J./Monroe Township) scored four goals, while
Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn),
Cyla Cafferata (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) and
Jordan Klebe (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) each had hat tricks in the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team's season-opening 19-2 victory over Holy Family on Wednesday afternoon.
The game was moved to La Salle University's McCarthy Stadium with the Tigers' on-campus field not yet suitable for play with the recent string of winter weather.
Kutztown (1-0) wasted little time asserting itself as the dominant team.
Destanee Watkins (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus),
Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic) and
Lauren Schmidt (Hanover, Pa./South Western) netted unassisted goals in the opening 10 minutes. The Golden Bears ran off the first six goals before Holy Family (0-3) got on the board with its only goal of the half.
Bowman's first half hat trick pushed KU to a 13-1 lead at the break.
Kutztown added six goals in the second half and outshot Holy Family 33-13 for the game.
Lane produced a game-high five points on four goals and an assist. Cafferata (3g, 1a), Klebe (3g, 1a), Schmidt (2g, 2a) and Smith (1g, 3a) each had four points.
Midfielder
Allie McCormick (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) finished with a goal, two assists, four ground balls and six draw controls. Schmidt matched her teammate with six draws.
The Golden Bears were good on 16-of-18 clears and goalie
Haley Kline (Reading, Pa./Wilson) made seven saves.
Kutztown is on the road Saturday to face Roberts Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
