SINKING SPRING, Pa. -- The Kutztown University women's bowling team capped Saturday's Baker format play at the Golden Bear Classic with an 895-883 victory over 11th-ranked Saint Francis (Pa.) to finish 3-2 on the day.
The Golden Bears have defeated the Red Flash twice in a row after dropping their first four matches against the Loretto, Pennsylvania-based school this season.
Kutztown (57-51) placed 11th in the team-standings with a pinfall of 4,387 (175.5 average) and will open Sunday's best-of-7 bracket play against 12th-place LIU Post. The Golden Bears can finish as high as ninth.
LIU Post was the Maroon and Gold's first opponent on Saturday and the two sides needed a tiebreaker to decide a winner after an 894-894 deadlock through five games. Kutztown emerged with the win in the tiebreaker, 105-82.
Kutztown followed the LIU Post match with back-to-back nationally-ranked opponents. The Golden Bears fell to 24th-ranked Adelphi, 1,004-937, and No. 17 LIU Brooklyn, 913-878.
The hosts finished strong, however, knocking off Norfolk State 782-711 and Saint Francis (Pa.) by just 12 pins.
