KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown could not slow Millersville's pursuit of a PSAC playoff berth, falling in straight sets, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena.
Holly Owen (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) had 11 kills,
Abbey James (York, Pa./West York Area) 14 assists and
Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) 18 digs, but the Marauders hit .230 with 41 kills and amassed nine service aces to sweep by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-19.
Millersville (22-7, 12-4 PSAC) never trailed in the first set while receiving six kills from Haley Butler and five from Jayci Suseland.
Suseland would produce matching kill totals in the second and third to finish with a match-high 15 on just 25 tries for a .560 hitting percentage. Butler connected at a .458 rate with 12 kills on 24 attempts.
The Marauders led wire-to-wire in the second, before Kutztown (9-17, 3-13) claimed its first lead of the day by scoring three of the first four points in the third. Millersville recovered quickly to score four consecutive points and pulled ahead for good with a 9-3 run.
Erin Patterson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) had six kills and
Abby Daniels (Exton, Pa./Great Valley) three for the host Bears, who were held without a service ace for the first time this season.
Katie Laughman had a match-high 33 assists for Millersville and Kat Forry finished with 11 digs.
Kutztown closes out its 2019 home schedule on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against East Stroudsburg.
