Fourth quarter goal enough as No. 4 Kutztown Field Hockey edged 1-0 by East Stroudsburg in PSAC Championship Game

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The nationally-ranked and fourth-seed Kutztown University field hockey team battled for 60 minutes and was neck-and-neck with the second-seed East Stroudsburg University for the entirety, but ESU had one shot fall its way and edged KU 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship game at West Chester University's Vonnie Gros Field.

The Golden Bears (14-6) will now await on the continuation of their season when the NCAA Division II Selection Show takes place tomorrow, Monday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m.

Kutztown has a lot to look forward to and a lot to hang its hat on up to this point. KU reached the PSAC final for just the second time in program history and won a postseason game for the first time since 1988 when it took down Mansfield last Tuesday night. The 14 wins thus far is also tied for the most wins by the program in a season since 2007.

Kutztown and East Stroudsburg were even in total shots, 8-8, but the Warriors (19-2) had one fall through and that was all they needed.

Senior goalie Kerri Hanshaw (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) finished with two saves, while Gabby Hess (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) and Juliana Borisow (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) each made a defensive save for KU.

After a scoreless first three quarters, East Stroudsburg got on the scoreboard on a Celeste Veenstra goal just 1:23 into the fourth quar. That was all of the scoring that happened.

Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin) led the Maroon and Gold with three shots each. ESU had a 5-4 advantage in penalty corners.
