BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University field hockey team controlled the first half and rode an early two-goal lead to a 2-1 road win over fifth-ranked Bloomsburg University Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action from Bloomsburg's Steph Petit Stadium.
The Golden Bears (4-1) won their third-in-a-row Wednesday. They came out strong with a 7-0 advantage in penalty corners in the first half whiling scoring on 2-of-4 shots.
Freshman
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) gave KU a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. She deflected a shot from
Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin), the country's leading scorer, to redirect it past the Bloomsburg keeper.
Just more than 10 minutes later, Kutztown capitalized off a corner in the 25th minute.
Leigh Roselli (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) inserted the ball to
Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), who found sophomore
Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) to score off a set play from the corner.
Kutztown kept the Huskies (3-1) off the board for 63 minutes before the Huskies clawed within a goal, but the Golden Bear defense stood strong from then on.
For the game, Kutztown outshot Bloomsburg, 9-4, and held a 10-3 advantage in corners. Freshman keeper
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) picked up the win.
Kutztown returns home for non-conference action on Saturday, Sept. 22, against Seton Hill University. Game time is set for 11 a.m. for Youth Camper Day, with giveaways and prizes for youth in attendance.
