KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team got itself back into the win column on Saturday afternoon, defeating Edinboro University 18-9 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Andre Reed Stadium.

KU showed no ill effects from its loss to West Chester on Thursday evening, storming out of the gates to take a 5-0 lead and going ahead 11-4 at halftime on its way to a convincing nine goal win over the Fighting Scots. Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) netted four goals, all of which came in the first half, and added three assists to lead the Golden Bears, registering her 100th career point in the game.

Bowman was one of four members of the Maroon and Gold to score a hat-trick, joined by Lauren Schmidt (Hanover, Pa./South Western), Allison McCormick (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic), whom each posted three goals a piece. Madison Carlucci (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) and Destanee Watkins (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) scored twice as well and Cyla Cafferata (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) found the back of the net to round out the seven different goal scorers for the Golden Bears.

Despite jumping out to a 5-0 lead, things got a little too close for comfort for KU and head coach Jackie Stezzi at the midway point of the first half. After a timeout, Edinboro scored four of the next five goals to bring itself within two, down just 6-4 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the opening stanza. A resilient Kutztown side would respond, however, scoring the next five goals while blanking the Fighting Scots for the remainder of the half to take an 11-4 advantage into halftime.

It became clear that the momentum was firmly back in KU's favor as the second half began with the Golden Bears scoring six of the first seven goals to go ahead 17-5. The Fighting Scots would continue to push despite their mounting deficit, scoring the next four goals to cut the Kutztown lead to eight with 8:29 left.

The Maroon and Gold kept Edinboro off the board from this point on though, getting a goal from Schmidt to put the bow on the victory by a final score of 18-9. KU moves to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in PSAC play while Edinboro drops to 3-8 and 0-7.

Haley Kline (Reading, Pa./Wilson West Lawn) earned the win for the KU, moving her record to 6-5 on the season, stopping seven shots in 60:00. Candace McDole took the loss for EU, falling to 3-8 allowing 13 goals and making five saves in 32:50.

Kutztown will host Slippery Rock University on Monday, April 9 at 1 p.m. for the final game of its four-game home stand with a chance to win its third game in less than a week's time.
