Madison Carlucci (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) and
Sarah Gabriele (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) combined for seven goals to close out their Kutztown University women's lacrosse careers, as the Golden Bears fell in their season-finale 12-9 Saturday on the road at Mercyhurst University's Tullio Field.
The Golden Bears (6-11, 3-9 PSAC) played within two goals of the 21st-ranked Lakers (11-5, 9-3) for the full game leading up to the final 20:00. Mercyhurst's defense cranked up in the second half, limiting KU to four second-half goals, including just one in the final 20:00.
Carlucci, a team captain, closed her career with her first career four-goal game. She scored on all four of her shots and also caused two turnovers. She closes her career with a career-high 22 goals and 28 points this season. Her 65 career goals and 82 career points both rank 11th in school history. She is seventh at KU with 115 groundballs and started in 62-of-66 career games, third in school history in both games played and starts.
Gabriele scored on all three of her shots Saturday. She closes her career as the first player in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) history to hold a school's career goals, assists and points records, with 176 goals, 57 assists for 233 points. She ranks 20th in PSAC history in scoring and 27th in points. Her 119 draw controls rate third at KU, while her 63 starts rank third and her 64 games played rank seventh.
Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic)'s 59 draw controls this season rank second in KU single-season history behind her record 61 from last year, as she enters her senior year with the career record of 153.
Goalkeeper
Haley Kline (Reading, Pa./Wilson West Lawn) picked up five groundballs and made eight saves to close her freshman season. Her 158 saves this year rank sixth in KU history.
Senior
Olivia Haas (Denver, Pa./Cocalico (Edinboro)) also closed out her Golden Bear career on Saturday. She played in eight games over the last two years, including seven this season with her first career goal.
