HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team received a balanced effort up-and-down its roster Monday in a 19-6 non-conference win over Post University to open the team's spring break trip in Hilton Head.
Sarah Gabriele (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) led the way with a career-high nine points off five goals and four assists. She fired six shots and picked up four groundballs.
Lauren Schmidt (Hanover, Pa./South Western) scored four times on seven shots, and dominated the draw with seven draw controls.
Madison Carlucci (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) and
Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic) each netted hat-tricks with three goals and an assist apiece. Carlucci also led the team with six groundballs.
Three Golden Bears scored their first career goal in the win. Senior
Olivia Haas (Denver, Pa./Cocalico (Edinboro)) used a spin move from behind the net to score in the second half for her first time in Maroon and Gold. Freshmen
Georgianna Saxon (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) and
Sara Kilian (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) also scored in the second half for the first time this season.
Kutztown's
Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) also scored once for KU.
In goal, freshman
Haley Kline (Reading, Pa./Wilson West Lawn) picked up the win. She made six saves and allowed only three field goals, as three were off free-position shots.
Next up for Kutztown is a road game at Indiana University (PA) on Saturday, March 17. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in KU's conference-opener.
