READING, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team won 2-of-3 matches Sunday, went to game seven in the third-place match against No. 14 Saint Francis, and finished in fourth place Sunday afternoon to close the fourth annual Golden Bear Classic from Berks Lanes.
The Golden Bears (59-37) opened Sunday with back-to-back wins over Caldwell (4-2) and Franklin Pierce (4-0) to put themselves in the third-place match vs. Saint Francis (PA). KU was particularly strong vs. Franklin Pierce, posting 200+ scores in all four games.
KU led 3-1 through four games in the best-of-seven match, but Saint Francis (PA) charged with three-straight wins, two of which were 200+ scores, to earn the 4-3 comeback win.
For the third straight day, a different Golden Bear led the team. Freshman
Laura Hartley (Mt Pleasant Mills, Pa./Midd-West) stepped up Sunday with an impressive 21.18 frame average across the three matches.
Alexis Case (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) posted an 18+ frame average for the second-straight day at 18.9, while fellow sophomore
Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) rounded out KU's top trio at 18.7.
For her performance over the first two days of the invite, senior
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) was named to the All-Tournament Second Team for her 18.91 frame average.
Duquesne won the title by one pin in game seven over Adelphi.
Kutztown takes the rest of the month off and returns to action next on March 2-4 at the Hawk Flight Invite in Little Egg Harbor, N.J.
