Men's Basketball Bounces Back with Win over Clarion

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Ahead 46-31 at halftime, the Kutztown University men's basketball team cruised to its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win of the season, downing the Clarion University Golden Eagles, 87-70, on Sunday afternoon inside of Keystone Arena.

Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) led all scorers with 37 points, four shy from his career-high set earlier this season. He has scored in double-digits for the 37th consecutive game. Lee shot 12-of-16 (75%) overall from the floor and 5-of-7 (71.5%) from three-point land.

Josh Townsend (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) tied a career-high with 13 points and finished with nine rebounds and a block. Ricky Hicks (Coatesville, Pa./Polytech) tallied 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals to stuff the stat sheet and lead a well-balanced scoring effort from the Golden Bears (5-3 overall, 1-1 PSAC), which had 10 different players get into the score column.

Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy) fell just short of his fifth consecutive double-double as the redshirt-sophomore recorded six points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Da'Quan Granberry (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) recorded eight points, including 2-of-3 from long distance, and added three rebounds, two assists and one steal.

The game was seemingly in control of the KU men by the first media timeout of the ball game. Kutztown scored the first eight points overall and 11 of the first 12 to hold an 11-1 lead 3:12 into the game. The Golden Eagles would cut it to as low as four points midway through the first half, but found themselves behind by as much as 17 points twice late in the half, and KU led 46-31 at halftime.

Just 24 hours after Kutztown took the third-ranked team in Division II in IUP to the brink, having four of its five starters log at least 33 minutes, head coach Bernie Driscoll was able to rest some of the key contributors and give plenty of looks to younger players.

Freshmen Austin Laughlin (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Akello Mosby (Philadelphia, Pa./Carver) both reached the scoresheet, finishing with five points and three points respectively. Facundo Arens (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Bahia Blanca) and Kiyon Hardy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Shipley School) each had two points and David Johnson (Dunellen, N.J./Dunellen) had one to round out the KU scoring.

KU will continue its PSAC slate next weekend, taking to the road for the first time in conference play this season at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.
