Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Kutztown University women's basketball team dropped the opening game of the Saint Mary's Holiday Invitational to a top-10 team in Lubbock Christian, 72-47 Friday afternoon at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio, Texas.
KU was outscored in each quarter, with the third quarter being the one that got the game out of hand. The Maroon and Gold actually led 6-0 right out of the gate, but watched as the Lady Chaps (6-1) stormed to a lead of 30-19 at the half, shooting 60-percent (9-of-15) in the half, where as KU shot 35-percent (6-of-17).
Kutztown was led by junior
Karen Lapkiewicz (Southampton, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) with 16 points and three rebounds in 34 minutes. She was 4-for-6 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point range. Sophomore
Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) also reached double-digits in scoring with 13 points and added three rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes.
KU entered the game 26
th in the nation in three-point field goals per game, but was 3-of-14 (21.4%) from three-point range.
The Golden Bears (1-4 overall) will take on host Saint Mary's in its third and final game in the state of Texas tomorrow, Saturday, at 6:30 p.m.
