LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)) posted a season-high 22 kills as the Kutztown University women's volleyball team claimed its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win of 2018 over Lock Haven University on Saturday afternoon.
Kutztown dropped the opening set to the Bald Eagles, but then found its offensive form as the match progressed. The Maroon and Gold battled LHU in the second set, pulling out a tightly contested 30-28 frame to gain the momentum. Continuing its effective play into set three, KU jumped all over Lock Haven from the beginning, taking a 2-1 lead in the match via a 25-13 win. The Golden Bears showed their ability to finish in the fourth and deciding frame, taking the set 25-18 to down the Bald Eagles 3-1.
Moyer, who played her freshman season at Lock Haven, averaged over four kills per set on the day, hitting .348 on 46 attempts with 22 kills.
Erin Patterson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and
Jessica Howe (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) each totaled seven kills, providing a solid contribution from their right side hitting positions. At the net, the Maroon and Gold out-blocked LHU 13.0-3.0 with Howe and
Lilly Charlton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) leading the way with 11 combined block assists.
Facilitating the offense for Kutztown was the setting tandem of
Amanda Meck (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area) and
Abbey James (York, Pa./West York Area). Meck and James nearly matched one another, totaling 20 and 21 assists, respectively, as the offense rolled up a combined 50 kills. James also had 12 digs, recording her sixth double-double.
Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) picked up 26 digs on the defensive end and now has 76 total digs in her last three matches, averaging 6.9 digs per set.
KU's 50 kills and 84 digs were both its second-highest totals of the season and, the 50 kills, its highest in any four-set match.
The Golden Bears (7-11, 1-8 PSAC) will next play at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, taking on West Chester for their annual 'Dig Pink' match at Keystone Arena.
