Women's Bowling Finishes Fourth at Red Flash Invitational

Final Standings | Bracket

ALTOONA, Pa. – Riding its momentum from two victories to close out day two, the Kutztown University women's bowling team defeated Norfolk State University and Caldwell University before falling to Duquesne University in day three's bracket-style matchups, securing a fourth-place finish at the Red Flash Invitational hosted by Saint Francis (PA) University.

KU and NSU split the opening two games in the first-team-to-win-four-games format, but the Golden Bears closed the match with three straight victories to claim the 4-1 win over Norfolk State. After only managing a high score of 157 through the first two games, the Maroon and Gold exploded with three-straight 175-plus games, swinging the result in their direction.

Advancing to the next round, Kutztown met Caldwell and, again, split the first two games with the Cougars. A resilient KU squad showed its ability to close as the match progressed, winning games three, four and six to cement the 4-2 win over Caldwell, setting them up for a tilt with Duquesne in the third-place match.

Things looked promising for the Golden Bears in the early going against Duquesne, as they won each of the first two games to go ahead 2-0. The Dukes caught fire, however, rolling four-straight 195-plus games to close out the match by a final of 4-2.

Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) held the top frame average on day three for the Golden Bears, posting an average of 20.9 pins per frame. Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) and Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) rounded out the top-three frame averages for Kutztown in today's three matches, holding averages of 19.7 and 17.8, respectively.

KU, with its fourth-place finish, jumped five spots from last year's result at the Red Flash Invite, coming home with ninth-place in 2017.

The women's bowling team will hit the lanes once again next weekend, hosting the Bowling for a KUre Tournament at Jay Lanes in Douglasville on Saturday, Feb. 3, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
