ALTOONA, Pa. – Going 3-2 in today's five matches, the Kutztown University women's bowling team heads into the final day of the three-day competition at the Red Flash Invitational, hosted by Saint Francis University, with a 7-2 overall record.
KU began the day with a solid 889 team score, defeating Wilmington University, 889-810, in the traditional five-person team game format.
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) rolled a 203 to lead the Golden Bear effort as all five Maroon and Gold team members bowled scores above 165.
Carrying an unblemished 5-0 record into its next match with No. 24 Lincoln Memorial University, Kutztown struggled for the first time all weekend, posting a score of just 787 and falling to LMU, 907-787. KU began its turnaround in match number three against Mount Aloysius College, getting back on track with a score of 849, despite falling to MAC, 917-849.
The Golden Bears took on Morgan State University in match four and Felician University in the positional round and surely saved their best two performances for last. On the ropes versus MSU, KU completed a 58-pin comeback in the tenth frame to tie Morgan State at 928-all, but claimed the dramatic victory with a 118-87 score in the tiebreaker.
Fueled by its victory over Morgan State, Kutztown downed Felician in the positional round, 975-940, its second defeat of Felician in as many days. KU had four different bowlers throw 200-plus games during the second day of competition, paced by
Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South), who bowled a 221 and 201 in the Maroon and Gold's final two matches.
Kozma held a team-high frame average of 19.14, bowling all 50 of her team's frames today, and was followed closely by
Felicia Trievel (Reading, Pa./Wilson), who notched an 18.5 frame average in 30 frames.
Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) bowled in four of five matches for the Maroon and Gold, posting a frame average of 17.8 pins per frame in those 40 frames.
Kutztown sits in sixth place after day two of the Red Flash Invite with a pin total of 8,891 through its first ten matches, an average of 177.8 pins per player per match.
KU is now 43-31 on the season and will conclude its weekend competition at the Red Flash Invitational tomorrow, Sunday Jan. 28, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
