READING, Pa. – Saturday could very well have been the toughest schedule any team has faced this season. The Kutztown University women's bowling team competed against five teams – all of whom were ranked in the top-seven of the national poll – as the Golden Bears dropped five matches on the second day of the 10th Annual KU Invitational at Hiester Lanes.
Through day two and 10 matches this weekend, Kutztown sits in 18th place of 27 teams. KU is averaging 186.2 pins per match and has posted 900+ scores in 8-of-10 matches.
Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) highlighted the day for Kutztown, bowling a 278 in the second match of the day against McKendree, the defending national champs. It was 1-of-2 200+ games for Kozma, who led KU with a 200.2 average on the day.
Kutztown went up against No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, No. 2 McKendree, No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 4 Vanderbilt and No. 5 Sam Houston State on Saturday. KU posted 900+ scores in 4-of-5 matches, but saw opponents score no less than 974, including 3-of-5 1000+ scores.
Freshman
Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) was second on the team with her 193.2 average Saturday. She had two 200+ matches, including a 213 in the opener against Stephen F. Austin.
Action resumes tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 21, when KU faces Saint Francis Brooklyn to open the bracket-style final day of the 10th annual KU Invite.
