SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The fifth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team suffered its second-straight loss in the final minutes on Saturday. Slippery Rock University's Kailee Krupski scored the game-winner in the 64th minute to down the Golden Bears 3-2 at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
The loss follows a tough setback earlier this week for KU, when it fell in the final minute at nationally-ranked Bloomsburg. The Golden Bears maintain its winning record of 6-4 and fall to 1-2 in the PSAC.
Morgan Aldinger (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored twice Saturday, including the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute. Coming off a corner,
Madison Wampler (York, Pa./West York Area) sent a high pass to Aldinger, who gathered and sent it in for the early lead.
Slippery Rock tied the game in the final minute of the first half, and took the lead nearly eight minutes into the second half off two goals by Kayla Ulrich for a 2-1 lead with 28:00 to play.
Aldinger struck again in the 58th minute. With Aldinger involved in the offense coming off another corner, Slippery Rock was forced to make a defensive save off KU's initial shot attempt, but Aldinger was there to clean up the rebound and tie the game with less than 13:00 to go.
Krupski gave Slippery Rock the 3-2 lead at the 63:29 mark, forcing KU to push forward the final 5:00.
KU was awarded two penalty corners after the final horn sounded, fired two shots, but none got past the Slippery Rock keeper.
Both teams finished with seven shots, and each team had a defensive save – including one by Aldinger.
The Golden Bears aim to bounce back at home on Tuesday, Oct. 3, against nationally-ranked Millersville University at Andre Reed Stadium beginning at 7 p.m.
