KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University field hockey team kicked off its 2017 campaign in style with an 8-0 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas on Saturday afternoon.

Madison Stewart (New Castle, Del./William Penn) opened up the scoring for KU at the 10:07 mark, slotting in a goal from the top of the circle off of a penalty corner, assisted by Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and Morgan Aldinger (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen).

Kutztown continued to stretch this margin as the first half progressed with a pair of goals from Micaela Beaty (Drexel Hill, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) at 14:48 and 16:44, staking the Golden Bears to a 3-0 halftime lead.

Coach Marci Scheuing's squad kept its foot on the gas pedal in the second half, scoring three times in a three-minute span to take a commanding 6-0 advantage.

The quick-strike KU offense was on display again late in the game, this time, scoring twice in 0:27 to close out the game with an 8-0 victory.

Stewart, Beaty and Trinity Ponton (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) each scored twice in the win with Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin) and Courtney Konowal (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) registering the Golden Bears' other two tallies.

Chardonnay Hope (New Castle, Del./William Penn) picked up the win for KU in net, playing all 70:00.

Other than the backup goaltenders, every member of the Kutztown roster saw the field in today's matchup.

The Golden Bears' eight goals scored were the most for the program dating back to 2009, when they scored nine against Catawba.

The Golden Bears will face-off with No. 10 Adelphi University in a special Labor Day edition of field hockey at Andre Reed Stadium on Monday, Sept. 4 at noon.
