KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team opened Keystone Arena in style for the 2017 season Wednesday night. The Golden Bears utilized a full team effort in a 3-0 win over Bowie State University in non-conference action.
KU (3-6) threw down 21 service aces in its victory, the most for the program since 2009. Eighth different Golden Bears tallied aces, led by five apiece from
Alli Henderson (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) and
Amanda Meck (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area).
Henderson also led the charge offensively for KU, throwing down seven kills in two sets of action.
Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)) had five kills on eight attacks.
Madelyn Edsell (Wyalusing, Pa./Wyalusing) and
Abby Daniels (Exton, Pa./Great Valley) each finished with three kills.
Senior
Madisyn Kleinfelter (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) was strong from her setter position, dishing out 14 assists with three aces and five digs.
Kutztown's top set was the second, swinging at a .400 clip and allowing six points to highlight its 25-11, 25-6, 25-15 win.
The Golden Bears look ahead to this weekend's Kutztown Classic at Keystone Arena. KU will compete in three matches over two days on Sept. 15-16, beginning on Friday, Sept. 15, against Shepherd University at 7 p.m.
