POMONA, N.Y. – Saint Thomas Aquinas scored five runs in the first inning to cap the only scoring Wednesday night as the Kutztown University baseball team fell 5-0 under the lights in non-conference action at PCU Park.
Kutztown walked three straight batters and needed a pitching change to open the bottom-half of the first inning. Two, two-run singles, and a KU error resulted in the five runs for Saint Thomas Aquinas – the only five runs to be scored of the nine-inning game.
Five KU pitchers combined to throw six scoreless innings of relief. They were
Peter Masterson (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge),
Kurtis Hultz (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone (Cecil College)),
Gavilan Fogarty-Harnish (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata),
Ryan Clow (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and
Matt Matricardi (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin).
Kutztown put runners in scoring position with two outs in the fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth innings, but was unable to get the timely hit to plate a run.
Kutztown (11-14) returns to action on Friday, April 7, when it opens its weekend series with East Stroudsburg University. Action on Friday opens at ESU with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
