Kutztown Drops Season-Finale on the Road against Seton Hill, 14-6

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team played its season-finale on the road Saturday against Seton Hill University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup, but was unable to pick up the victory as it dropped a 14-6 decision to the Griffins.
 
After establishing an early 3-1 lead, Seton Hill scored five consecutive goals to take a commanding 8-1 advantage with 7:02 left in the first half.
 
Entering the second half down 10-3, the Golden Bears started their rally attempt on the right foot, notching the first goal of the second half.
 
Unfortunately, Seton Hill kept up the pressure to end the game 14-6.
 
Sarah Gabriele (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) led the attack for the Golden Bears, tallying a team-high in goals with three. She also led the Golden Bears in draw controls with three.
 
She improved to a school-record-tying 67 points this season, tying her own record from last season. Her career-high 53 goals rank second in school-history.
 
Not far behind Gabriele was Madison Carlucci (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley), who notched two goals and picked up three groundballs.
 
Courtney O'Neill (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) paced the defense with a game-high five caused turnovers.
 
Lauren Huggins (Media, Pa./Penncrest) dished out two assists in the contest, capping her season with a team-leading 18.
 
Sophomore Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic) ended the year with a school-record 61 draw controls.
 
O'Neill, goalkeeper Abby Cox (York, Pa./West York) and defender Haley Romoser (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) all capped their collegiate careers with Kutztown on Saturday.
 
O'Neill, a four-year starter, goes down as the school-record holder for caused turnovers in a game (10) season (54) and a career (159). She also holds the school-record for career groundballs with 238. She ended her season with 75 groundballs, the most ever in single-season history. She ranks second at KU with 120 career draw controls.
 
For her career, O'Neill played in 66 games – third-most in school history.
 
Cox played in 47 career games and ended her career with an 11.52 career goals-against-average. She made a career-high 140 saves this year to finish with 300 for her career – third in school history.
 
Romoser, a four-year player for the Golden Bears, played in 44 games in her career, tallying 58 groundballs and causing 22 turnovers. She was a two-year team captain.
 
The Golden Bears now begin preparations for the 2018 season.
