KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University softball team dropped two games in a doubleheader against Wilmington, 3-2 and 3-0, on a rainy Saturday afternoon at North Campus Field.

After a scoreless first inning of game one, Wilmington kicked off the second inning with two quick runs for the early lead. Wilmington scored its third run in the third inning while holding the Golden Bears scoreless until the fifth.

Kutztown picked up its first run in the fifth inning, courtesy of Asja Saito (Pickering, Ontario/Pickering), who scored off of a wild pitch.

Soon thereafter, a double-steal notched the Golden Bears their second run of the game as Blayse Cholish (Peckville, Pa./Valley View), who finished the game a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, stole home to bring Kutztown within one of tying the game.

Unfortunately, the Golden Bears were unable to find the equalizer and dropped the first game of the afternoon.

Savannah Nierintz (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) dropped her fourth game of the season, moving to 17-4. She pitched well, pitching all seven innings while striking out eight batters. Only two of the runs were earned.

The second game of the day was another tightly-contested battle, but Wilmington came out on top 3-0.

It was a pitcher's duel throughout the first four innings, as the only one run scored was by Wilmington in the first inning.

With the score locked at 1-0 heading into the fifth, Wilmington notched its second run of the game off of an RBI single. One inning later, Wilmington scored its final run of the game off of a home run to take a 3-0 advantage.

The Golden Bears were unable to generate any offense and dropped their second game of the afternoon,

Like Nierintz, Adrianna Dilal (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) pitched a complete game and allowed only two earned runs. She is now 3-3 on the season.

The Golden Bears will return to conference play against East Stroudsburg University tomorrow, Sunday, April 23, on the road. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
