EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team defeated No. 20 Franklin Pierce as it went 2-1 on Sunday to move up one position and cap a weekend of competition at the Hawk Flight Invite in 12th place with a 6-7 record.
The Golden Bears (52-59) opened the morning defeating Chestnut Hill for the second time this weekend, going 4-2 in the best-of-seven match. KU scored a Sunday-high 213 in game four to finish on top 1043-920.
In the second round, Kutztown defeated its first ranked opponent of the invite, No. 20 Franklin Pierce. Notably, the Maroon and Gold swept the Ravens in each of the first four games to end 4-0.
The third and final match of the day brought about some tough competition from Felican. The Falcons swept the first two games of the match, leading to a comfortable lead and a 4-2 KU loss.
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) led the Maroon and Gold with an 18.1 frame average, followed by
Renee Riffey (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) with 17.6 and
Megan Bauter (Spring Lake, N.J./Manasquan) with 17.2.
Action continues for Kutztown next weekend, Friday, March 10, when the Golden Bears return home to host the USBC Individual Sectionals at Parkway Lanes in Allentown, Pa.
