PEMBROKE, N.C. –
Gabby Tareila (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) stayed hot with a 3-for-3 day at the plate and two RBI to help lead the Kutztown University softball team to a 6-4 victory over Winston-Salem State on Sunday in neutral site action on the final day of the UNC Pembroke Invitational.
Tareila drove in an RBI double in the first inning, and the Golden Bears (3-2) never looked back. She scored
Sara Keeny (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) on the play – her first of three runs scored of the afternoon. Keeny also added three hits Sunday.
Tied at 2-2 through 2.5 innings, Kutztown broke out with three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-2 lead.
Cheyenne Jones (Levittown, Pa./Harry S Truman (Northwest Florida State)), Tareila and
Justine Rossi (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) all drove in runs in the inning.
Tamara Jennings (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) capped KU's RBI hits on the day with a run-scoring groundball in the fourth.
Adrianna Dilal (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) picked up her first collegiate win with four innings of scoreless action in the circle. She notched three strikeouts and scattered three hits.
For their efforts over the three-day tournament, Tareila (.500 BA, 5 RBI) and
Bridget Newman (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) (3 RBI) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Golden Bears return to action in two weeks in Myrtle Breach on Feb. 17-19.
