Late Double-Digit Run Helps East Stroudsburg Outscore Women’s Basketball 60-54

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Despite holding the lead for a majority of the first three quarters over second-place East Stroudsburg, the Kutztown University women's basketball team had its three-game win streak snapped in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division matchup against the Warriors on Wednesday evening at Keystone Arena, 60-54.

The Golden Bears (10-17, 7-12 PSAC) are now tied for fifth place in the PSAC with three contests remaining in the season.

A back-and-forth first half gave way to KU extending its lead to a game-high seven points, 41-34, after Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area)'s 3-pointer with 3:25 left in the third quarter.

East Stroudsburg (16-7, 12-7 PSAC) did not stay down for long and bounced back with a 16-1 run to overtake the Maroon and Gold, taking a game-high eight-point lead, 52-40, just 1:49 into the fourth.

Although a jumper from Sierra Taylor (Williamstown, N.J./Camden Catholic) with 50 seconds to spare helped reduce the Warriors' lead to just three points, 57-54, the Golden Bears were unable to completely reduce the deficit, as ESU scored three free throws within the final 22 seconds of regulation.

Four Golden Bear starters reached double digits on the evening. Altomare led all players with 13 points. She made her 57th triple of the season as she now sits at seventh in single-season program history.

Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood (Philadelphia U.)) reached her second straight double-double, and her seventh of the season, with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Taylor posted 11 points for the Golden Bears and is now one assist shy of KU's freshman single-season record for assists in a season with 115.

Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) racked up 10 points along with five rebounds. She is now tied for fourth in program history for rebounds with 763 total.

Allison Howard, Madison Tamburini and Tiffany Lapotsky each scored in double digits for East Stroudsburg. The Warriors outscored the Maroon and Gold in points in the paint, 38-20, while the ESU bench outscored KU's bench 28-6.

With the lead changing seven times, neither team held a commanding lead over the other throughout the first half. Two free throws from Altomare at the 38-second mark capped a 4-0 run to give the Golden Bears a first half-high 34-28 advantage heading into the locker room.

KU returns to action at home this Saturday, Feb. 18, to face Millersville for Senior Day, at 1 p.m.
