READING, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team finished its first day of competition at the Golden Bear Classic on Friday with three-straight victories, closing out the day 4-1 at Berks Lanes in Reading.

Notably, Kutztown won its 700th match in program history on Friday in the program's 10th year of existence under head coach Joseph Ambrose.

The Golden Bears opened the day with an impressive win over Roberts Wesleyan College, racking up their largest lead of the day over the Redhawks by nearly 200 pins, 867-670.

Despite dropping their second match of the day to Duquesne, 771-850, the Maroon and Gold quickly bounced back in a close match against Morgan State, edging Morgan State 872-870.

KU swept its final two opponents of the day, first posting a respectable win over Felician, 893-855, before closing the day with a victory over Caldwell, 832-819.

The Golden Bears are currently tied for second out of 12 teams in the win-loss style tournament.

Kutztown resumes action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 11, for the second day of the Golden Bear Classic. They are set face two ranked opponents, including No. 16 Adelphi, currently first in the tournament.
