NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team advanced to the championship match of the Wildcat Invitational on Sunday, but for the third time of the tournament, was unable to take down 15th-ranked Adelphi to finish in second place at the Division II/Division III tournament.
The Golden Bears (33-20) won eight matches over the weekend with five losses – three of which came to Adelphi. KU led Adelphi 3-2 in the first match of bracket-style play Sunday, only to drop the final two matches to fall 4-3. KU rallied with a 4-2 win over Chestnut Hill, pitting it against Adelphi for the third time this weekend in the championship match.
Kutztown roared out to a 2-0 lead in the title match, but Adelphi responded with two, 200+ matches to tie things up at 2-2. KU dropped a heartbreaking one-pin battle to fall behind 3-2, as Adelphi went on to win the title 4-2.
Senior
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) led the way for KU Sunday, holding a 19.2 frame average. Freshman
Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) followed with an impressive 18.3 average, followed by
Felicia Trievel (Reading, Pa./Wilson) at 18.0.
Kutztown takes a month off and returns to action in 2018 for its annual home KU Invitational, Jan. 19-21, at Hiester Lanes in Reading, Pa.
