Lee Nets Milestone in Men's Basketball Win Over Gannon

Video Highlights

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Redshirt-junior Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) tallied a team-high 18 points while eclipsing the 1,000 point mark for his career, and the Kutztown University men's basketball team held on for a 67-62 victory over Gannon University Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Keystone Arena.

Lee needed five points entering the game to reach the milestone, and with 5:38 left in the first half, the Willow Grove, Pa. native sank a jumper to join the KU men's basketball fraternity of 25 others.

"Coming into the game everyone was telling me I needed just five points," said Lee. "So I was hyped and excited to get to it. All of my teammates wanted to pass me the ball, and once the shot dropped and there was a timeout, everyone was smiling and just happy for me. I just waved my hand [to the crowd] I didn't know what to do."

The Golden Bears (6-1 overall, 3-1 PSAC) offense, which entered the weekend scoring 92.6 points per game (ppg), second in the PSAC, had a hard time putting the ball in the hoop in games vs. Mercyhurst (Saturday) and the Golden Knights, scoring 72 and 67 points respectively.

Lee, Dan Cuevas (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) (15 points) and Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) (12) all scored in double figures against Gannon, with Rafiq Marshall (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz (Cheyney)) (9) and Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy) (7) on the cusp of double-digits.

Kutztown took control of this one early on. The offense shot 16-of-31 (51.6%) from the field in the first half as it saw a lead balloon to as much as 14 late in the half. A layup from Lee just before the buzzer sounded gave KU a 41-29 advantage at halftime.

Early in the second half, however, Gannon made a run.

Trailing 51-39 with 16:49 left, the Golden Knights used the next 7:18 to go on a 12-2 run, cutting their deficit to just two points at 53-51 with 9:31 remaining.

The teams then went back-and-forth for the next couple of minutes as Kutztown was able to take as big as an eight point lead (63-55) with 5:53 to go. But Gannon would score five of the next seven points and trail by just three (65-62) with 1:19 on the clock.

The Golden Knights had the shot that they wanted to tie the game with Gerrell Williams open for a three-point attempt, but it rimmed in-and-out and Cuevas collected the rebound, his eighth of the game, to secure the win.

Kutztown shot 50.9% from the field and held Gannon to 37.7%.

Lee (20.9 ppg) has now scored in double figures in all seven games. He also had three steals, which gives him 21 on the season, second in the PSAC.

Ridgeway finished with 11 assists, the second most this season, and gives him a total of 51 (7.3 per game) on the season, first in the conference. Ridgeway has 516 in his career, and is 18 away from climbing to 12th all-time in PSAC history. It is the first double-double of the season for Ridgeway.

Gannon's Jair Green led all scorers with 22 points.

Kutztown is back in action in a nonconference game against Bowie State on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at Keystone Arena. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
