Women's Bowling Goes 5-0 at Griffin Invitational

Team Results  |  Individual Results

DEVON, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team continued its torrid start to the 2017-18 season, going undefeated in its five matches today as part of the Griffin Invitational, hosted by Chestnut Hill College.

KU's first match of the day pitted the Golden Bears against the Saint Peter's University Peacocks out of Jersey City, N.J. Kutztown was able to just squeeze by SPU by a final of 785-780 with Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) leading the charge, rolling a match-high score of 182.

Match two featured the Maroon and Gold against the LIU-Post Pioneers for the two sides' first tilt of the day. Delp and Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) each bowled games of 200-plus to pace the KU squad, which claimed an 831-782 win over the Pioneers.

The third match against the host-Chestnut Hill College was, much like the opening match, one which came down to the wire. Fitts continued her strong play from the previous match, striking for a 192 to lead Kutztown over the Griffins by a narrow five-point margin, 798-793.

The second matchup against Saint Peter's was the fourth match of the day for the Golden Bears, who seemed to be out to make a statement after their marginal victory in match number one. This time, it was Felicia Trievel (Reading, Pa./Wilson) rolling a 200-plus game, firing a 202, with Delp right behind finishing with a 187 total. KU's 880-705 win over the Peacocks was its largest margin of victory of the tournament with all five Golden Bear bowlers racking up a score of 163 or higher in the match.

LIU-Post met Kutztown in its last match of the day, of which KU saved its best team performance for last. Fitts and Delp each bowled 200-plus games, posting 245 and 221 respectively. These two's combined total of 466 allowed the Golden Bears to cruise to a 923-833 victory, completing the day with an unblemished record.

The dynamic duo of Delp and Fitts were not just excellent with individual match scores, but recorded impressive per game averages for the five-game series of 193.8 (Delp) and 191.6 (Fitts) respectively.

KU runs its overall match record to 12-3 with the five-match sweep, now holding a seven-match win streak as it moves forward.

The next competition for the Maroon and Gold will occur at the Fairleigh Dickinson University Jamboree Nov. 3-5 in Stratford, N.J.
